Publication Ethics

JIKARA is a peer-reviewed journal publishing articles to develop a coherent and respected network of communication knowledge. It is important to agree upon standards of expected ethical behavior for all parties involved in the act of publishing: the author, the journal editor, the peer reviewer, the publisher, and the society.

Prodi Ilmu Komunikasi FISIP Universitas Iskandar Muda as publisher of JIKARA takes its duties of guardianship all stages of publishing process and we recognize our ethical and other responsibilities.

We are committed to ensuring that advertising, reprint, other commercial revenue, or political interest, has no impact or influence on editorial decisions.

Reporting standards

Authors of reports of original research should present an accurate account of the work performed as well as an objective discussion of its significance. Underlying data should be represented accurately in the paper. A paper should contain sufficient detail and references to permit others to replicate the work. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable. Review and professional publication articles should also be accurate and objective, and editorial opinion works should be clearly identified as such.

Data access and retention

Authors may be asked to provide the raw data in connection with a paper for editorial review, and should be prepared to provide public access to such data, if practicable, and should in any event be prepared to retain such data for a reasonable time after publication.

Originality and plagiarism

Submitted manuscripts should be the original works of the author. The authors should ensure that they have written entirely original works, and if the authors have used the work and/or words of others that this has been appropriately cited or quoted. Plagiarism takes many forms, from passing off another paper as the author’s own paper, to copying or paraphrasing substantial parts of another paper (without attribution), to claiming results from research conducted by others. Plagiarism in all its forms constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable. JIKARA using Turnitin to identify similarities to existing sources of the manuscript as a deterrent to plagiarism.

Multiple, duplicate, redundant, or concurrent publication

An author should not in general publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal or primary publication. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable. This includes the submission of the same/similar manuscript in different languages to different journals. In general, an author should not submit for consideration in another journal a previously published paper.

Acknowledgement of sources

Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given. Authors should cite publications that have been influential in determining the nature of the reported work. Information obtained privately, as in conversation, correspondence, or discussion with third parties, must not be used or reported without explicit, written permission from the source. Information obtained in the course of confidential services, such as refereeing manuscripts or grant applications, must not be used without the explicit written permission of the author of the work involved in these services.

Authorship

Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the works. Inclusions of a person who do not meet authorship requirement as specified by the editorial checklists or the exclusion of a person who meets the requirement is a violation of this publication ethics.

Copyright

All things regarding to the permission of citation, or the use of software to produce the manuscript or else, which is associated with copyright that is done by the author, including the law consequences that followed, become the full responsibility of the author.

Fabrication and falsification of data

Fabrication, manipulation or falsification of data is a violation of this publication ethics. JIKARA will follow the COPE Guidelines in suspected cases of fabrication and falsification of data.

Citations manipulation

Authors should use only citations that are relevant to their manuscripts. Addition of references which are not relevant to the work is strongly discouraged. Irrelevant self-citation to increase one’s citation is unethical. Unnecessary citation of articles for the sole purpose of “increasing” the articles’ citation is unethical. Unnecessary citation of articles from a particular journal to “increase” the journals citation is unethical.

Thus, it is an obligation for the author to fulfil the Author Declaration and submit it through suplement file in his account.

Submission and Processing Charges Policy

Authors are welcomed to send their manuscript, after register in OJS as AUTHOR and fill in (clearly and complete) the identity or any information needed. JIKARA does not charge any fees to the authors, either article submission charge or article processing charge.
